Return of the Kings Empty
PostSubject: Return of the Kings   Return of the Kings EmptyTue Sep 10, 2013 8:10 pm

"There is a darkness in you. In all of us, probably. Beasts we keep chained. Ordinary men have to keep the chains strong, for if we let the beast loose then society will turn upon us with fiery vengeance. Kings though...well, who is there to turn upon them? So the chains are made of straw. It is the curse of kings that they can become monsters. And they invariably do.”
― David Gemmell, Shield of Thunder

Been testing this deck a lot lately with very good results. I won't say it's Tier 1 or anything because it's not TOO difficult to counter or predict, but at the same time it has lots of options and tricks. People make the obvious comparison to Dark World, but it is not so linear and therefore way better. Garunix isn't even summoned every duel. It can play stunnish or XYZ spam. But when you do get him Garunix + Phoenix is sick. No Heavy? No problem. You can turn the whole game around in one move. It is also better than Dark Worlds because there are so many tech options. Fire Fists, Fencing Fire Ferret, Blaster, Inari Fire, Flamvell Firedog, The Wicked Eraser, Goka the Pire of Malice, these are all good techs that fit the theme very well. And there are other non monster techs like Call, Duality, etc that I'm not using. I'm open to change. Bear needs to stay, sometimes I want a second but mostly I want a Gorilla instead. But I feel with Dragons and Mermail being Tier 1, having Phoenix, 2 MST and 2 Lance is enough dead draw for the main deck so Gorilla is in side. Ferret is great because screw Ophion. Yaksha + Eraser is great because screw everything.

Any ideas?

Everything seems pretty fine to me, nothing too out of the ordinary, except.....

Eraser is an interesting tech. How is it working so far?

PostSubject: Re: Return of the Kings   Return of the Kings EmptyWed Sep 11, 2013 12:27 pm

I actually haven't drawn Eraser yet O.o. Not even once. But since Yaksha works even in battle destruction he seems good. I might cut down on a Garunix or side Phoenix, not sure yet.

Ferret is decent, if I don't like him I'll switch him for something else. And it's funny you mention that, I was attacking with Bear for a second time (after searching him with Tenki) and I looked at my deck and I was like "Where the fuck is Tensu?" xD. I'll make room for it somehow. Changes to be posted soon.

-1 Garunix
-1 Phoenix
-2 Ferret
+1 Book of Moon
+1 Tensu
+2 Firedog

Ferret is just too reactive (mostly). I still have one sided for stuff like Evilswarm but I don't see a reason to main him. I was tired of dead drawing level 8's and Phoenix sux against Mermails and Dragons so it is sided. It is very often sided in game 2 but for those decks that don't use much backrow, it's useless. Firedog gets me out of weird situations, Lance and Book are best buddies with him. I could maybe run 3 Garunix but I felt I needed Book and Tensu (and honestly I could run a Flamvell Magician or a Gorilla or second Bear too) and I have never once thought "Wow I really wish I had another Garunix in my deck." Still haven't drawn Eraser, judgment will be reserved.

I've lost only once, with an opening hand of Ferret, Phoenix, Garunix, Wolfbark, Firedog, and Rekindling. They opened Dragon Shrine, Maiden, Gagagashield, SOL, and who knows what else, didn't even matter at that point I scooped.

You could try teching a Flamvell Magician which would give you access to Blader against Dragons and Mermails.

Also, try out extra decking King of the Feral Imps and replacing Eraser with Earthbound Immortal Ccarayhua. Exact same purpose, but it's searchable.

Been wanting to test 1, and I will, i'm just not sure what to drop for him. I could definitely run more monsters but Book and Tensu have been putting in work.

Great idea on Ccarayhua, I didn't even think of that. It'll solve the "never drawing it" problem.

Yep he's good, I'll find room for him somehow.

If Blaster destroyed the cards in hand, he would be a staple at 3. But he doesn't so he's not. The only useless fire monster I could draw is Garunix who is at 2. But in reality they're not useless, I just need Yaksha. I don't usually mind drawing him unless it's 2. Yaksha is easy to draw or search. And I don't really want to banish things... Plus I could run a lot of other things better than Blaster before Blaster.

EDIT:

Ccarayhua:

Finally used it xD. He had 4 facedowns including some Barriers he just set after double Archfiend, and double Archfiend, Necro, and Leviair. There was like a full minute-long pause as he read it.

if the Flamvells don't work because your meta is too undefined you could try the triple Bear + triple Blaster route. Blaster is used to set up the grave for Wolfbark,Circle,Call of the Haunted (which most people use at 3 in Fire Kings btw),etc.

Also, try out Needle Ceiling in the side.

Return of the Kings Empty
PostSubject: Re: Return of the Kings   Return of the Kings EmptySat Sep 21, 2013 3:14 pm

Call does seem good for sure. But I've been having great results with "real" (removal/disruption) traps, so I'm hesitant to use more combo oriented traps like Call or Generation Shift if that makes sense. Especially when I have stuff like Circle.

-1 Book
-1 Utopia
-1 Pearl
-1 Lavalval
-1 Tiger King
+1 Magician
+1 Blader
+1 Scrap
+1 Stardust
+1 Colossal

Though it seems sorta counter intuitive to drop a card that helps pull off Dog to get a card to search with Dog, it'll probably be worth it. Might put Chain or 2nd Tiger back in instead of Colossal but Colossal is good against lots of decks so yeah. I will get around to testing Needle Ceiling when I find out what I side the least. I still don't really want to tech Blasters but I will keep them in mind.

Thanks for the feedback!

Try maining Iron Walls in this. Card is good against Dragons and especially Spellbooks, who are your worst matchup thanks to Fate.

I'd also run at least 2 Maxx "C" to help with the Dragon/Mermail matchup.

Edit: nvm Maxx "C" isn't necessary in the main deck.

Return of the Kings Empty
PostSubject: Re: Return of the Kings   Return of the Kings EmptySat Oct 05, 2013 9:17 pm

was bored in hospital so I built some Fire King decks:

the first one kinda plays like a stun deck and uses Iron Wall like mentioned above

Monsters: 15

3 Fire King High Avatar Garunix
3 Fire King Avatar Yaksha
3 Fire King Avatar Barong
3 Coach Soldier Wolfbark
3 Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear

Spells: 16

3 Mystical Space Typhoon
3 Pot of Duality
3 Onslaught of the Fire Kings
2 Circle of the Fire Kings
2 Fire Formation - Tenki
1 Fire Formation - Tensu
1 Book of Moon
1 Dark Hole

Traps: 9

3 Imperial Iron Wall
2 Mirror Force
1 Compulsory Evacuation Device
1 Bottomless Trap Hole
1 Torrential Tribute
1 Solemn Warning

the second one is an explosive, monster heavy version

Monsters: 18

3 Fire King High Avatar Garunix
3 Fire King Avatar Yaksha
3 Fire King Avatar Barong
3 Coach Soldier Wolfbark
3 Baster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos
2 Fencing Fire Ferret
1 Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear

Spells: 13

3 Circle of the Fire Kings
3 Onslaught of the Fire Kings
3 Mystical Space Typhoon
2 Fire Formation - Tenki
1 Book of Moon
1 Dark Hole

Traps: 9

3 Call of the Haunted
2 Mirror Force
1 Compulsory Evacuation Device
1 Torrential Tribute
1 Solemn Warning
1 Bottomless Trap Hole

I don't think Flamvells are the way to go in this meta, they just suck against Dragons. I like Mirror Force in this, since they often try to bait Garunix , then overextend for lots of damage/OTK.
I also found Lance to be supbar in testing so I dropped it completely.
