yay chaining

ok so as i was in a duel we came to a point where i had to use a dark hole.

here is the situation i started my turn and paused for a good enough amount of time, and then i played dark hole.

on their side of the field they had trishula, formula synchron, and brionic.

i figured since they hadn't done anything at that point before i played dark hole that they werent going to use formulas effect. so when i used dark hole they said they were using formulas effect, in what i was assuming a chain. they sent formula and brio for stardust.

well here is my question, since they chained with formulas effect, would they be able to use stardusts effect to negate dark hole? or would the scenario be that when he is summoned he missed the activation of his effect and not be able to use it, and thus being destroyed along with trish.

I say missed activation. Stardust came out during resolution. That would mean he can't chain his effect and as such is destroyed

Nope and yes, in that order. Stardust couldn't stop the activation because he wasn't there when you activated it

ok i just needed to know, thats what i had thought, but i just wanted to make sure cuz i ended up being A.S.S.ed on DN cuz i was trying to explain it to someone i was dueling
