if ur confused wether it is effect or cost, here is a rule i use to distinguish, ( hope it's right
)
For example:
***if the discarding effect is a whole sentence, independant from others, meaning ends with a point
then it's a cost !
like lightning vortex effect :"
Discard 1 card. Destroy all face-up monsters your opponent controls."
right there u see, it's a full sentence, on its own not related to any thing ==>
Cost !
*** now if the discarding text is merged with the whole effect text then it's an effect and not a cost, like Dark World Lightning: "Select 1 face-down card on the field and destroy it,
and after that,
select 1 card from your hand and discard it."
here, we have the link "and after that" wich sends us to read the discarding text ! so it's merged with the effect text ===>
