To thank you all for my award of Article maker of the year, I decided to write a deck profile for you about what is probably my favorite Archtype ... GADGETS !!!
Many of you heard of the new gadget support available on Dueling Network recently and as a Gadget player I had to test that new support and try to make a competitive deck with it.
The deck is not available in the TCG yet but that doesn't mean you cannot try to make a competitive version of it. After testing 4 different versions of the deck on Dueling Network (because the meta right now is so annoying for gadgets) I finally came up with something interesting. Some people prefer the 9 Gadgets version of this deck but usually people who do that don’t use Veilers and Inzektors are one of the worst matchup of this deck so I decided to go with a 6 gadgets 40 cards version with 2 Veilers in main.
Explanation about the 9 Gadgets engine vs 6 Gadgets Engine: Both engines are good when they are mixed with Machinas, but for some reasons I prefer the 6 gadgets version.
9 Gadgets : With 9 Gadgets even if one of your gadgets get Veiler'd you probably have multiples gadgets in hand so you can always summon another next turn to keep your engine going and you always have Machina Fortress food. Now the bad part of this is that you will probably always have a monster hand and even if the monsters are the heart of this deck you will place yourself in a position where your options are limited.
6 Gadgets Engine : Takes less space and gives you more options for tech cards. The chances to draw multiple gadgets is reduced which is also a double edge sword because the chance to get your only gadgets in hand Veiler'd or Warning'd is present but you run a lot of destruction spells and traps to handle your opponent.
Explanation about the deck Choices: The Boring part but I have to write it.
You probably heard me saying how much Machina was crap some formats before, but yeah I decided to play them in this deck because Dragons are a threat for most of the decks and I need beaters.
Tinplate Goldfish: One of the 2 reasons this deck exist! When he is normal summoned you can special summon a level 4 or lower monster from your hand and gadgets gets there effect even when they are special summoned.
GearGiganto X: You all wanted a Blue Gadget, his name is not Blue Gadget but he serves the same purpose. you can XYZ summon that card with 2 level 4 machine monsters and once per turn you can search for a level 4 or lower machine type monster in your deck and add it to your hand. Like I said, The Blue Gadget!
Soul Taker: Replaces smashing ground because it’s a pain in the ass for Light Pulsar Dragon and Elemental Hero the Shining.
Compulsory Evacuation Device : I never been a fan of Warnings and Bottomless Trap Holes in the same deck in game 1 the reason for that being that with my luck I always go second and most of the time I draw my BTH when its already too late. CED is a more versatile than BTH, the card is chainable, I can use it against my gadgets when they get veilered ( very important if your offering is already Face Down ) and I can also use it to clear my opponents Face Down monster for my OTK move.
Dust Tornado: Kind of self-explanatory, it helps you to set up your offering plays with his second effect and I like versatile cards. Also Random MST's exist so you prefer this card to be hit by MST instead of your offering of course. A Dust tornado that is well placed can give you the win with offering.
Night Beam: When people play against gadgets, they set their MST and hold it to hit that offering (that’s why Dust helps too btw) so night beam is a good way to hit that hidden MST and lock it. Sometimes they might have another chainable trap face down and play around the night beam effect but they can't be that lucky all the time.
The rest is pretty much self-explanatory. 1 Torrential only because I need to maintain field presence, Reborn is Reborn and yata yata....
Phew, we are done with that, now we can go to the most technical part, the Side deck Choices. As you can see I didn't show my whole side deck because it’s probably not necessary for this article but I want to talk about some unusual cards that are on my side deck at this moment and why I side them. I will also give you some tips about how to side when you play Machina gadgets.
The first thing I want to talk about is
Ultimate Offering: This card is amazing in gadgets and it’s the way you will usually OTK your opponent but, you don’t need to keep this card in your deck every game. I personally take the offerings out when I play second against some matchups because your opponent gets to place his field first so it will be very hard for you to make use of your offering. You rather draw something else to get out of tight situations because offering is a card you need to set and you don’t even know if it will get to resolve the turn you will need it.
Solidarity/Kinetic soldier: Yeah Solidarity still exists! Now this is the place where people will probably disagree with me but this is my way to handle decks with big beaters such as Heroes and Dragons. Now solidarity doesn’t come alone, I also have some cyber Dragons and some Kinetic Soldier sided to make the best use of the continuous spell card. 2900 Cydra, 3100 Geargianto X and 3300 Machina Fortress is always scary. Solidarity is a double edge sword because you can't use your entire extra deck while the card is in play but if you know how to play it you might make your opponent rage! It’s not conventional, your opponent does not expect it, and if you play it like a boss you win the game, that’s the DLK way.
Gellenduo : For those that know me, Spirit reapper is one of my fetish cards in this game. Boths of his effects are amazing but now that we have XYZ monsters in this game I kinda preffer gellenduo to reaper for the rabbit matchup. Gellenduo have the abbillity to sit there and stall the game like reaper but he is a level 4 monster like most of the monsters in my deck wich means the turn after he stalled my opponent Dolkka ( cuz that’s what rabbit use against u usualy ) then you can summon a level 4 monster ( choose to not activate the effect ) and XYZ for a stronger monster than Dolkka to get over it.
I don’t want to make this article too long so I will end your pain right here. I hope you liked the deck and I am not saying this is the best version of the deck but this build is working for me and I wanted to share it with you.
Sincerely, Your DLKz Meta Knight
