First game I crushed him with my META deck Second game he gave me quite a bit of a scare but I managed to find a way to negate everything he had for the victory.

No problem. Only advice I would give you is that when it comes to Hero Gate decks, you have to have some kind of defence with them. You can't just expect to kill your opponent with different Fusion Monsters.

I drew into basically no defensive cards in either duel, so... yeah. I am going to look into a bit better support, but I actually do run more than the one trap you saw. xD
