The Rules:

Spoiler:

If anyone would be interested in playing this format, please post here. I think this would make for a very fun DGA tournament as well.

*EDIT* the rules have been updated.

I used to play with my friend using these kinda deck masters, we had these kinds of rules: normal 8000 lp, any monster from deck, you can use it's effect once per turn anytime you want. You can summon it to the field by tributing the amount of monsters it would need for a tribute summon +1, if it's destroyed, you lose the duel Very Happy

It was fun ^^

Yeah my friends and I played with rules similar to that, these are more similar to the rules in Magic the Gathering's Commander format.

Good idea, but I don't think that the 60 cards and 12000 lp are necessary. We could do it normal rules on that. But otherwise, nice. Sounds like a good idea for a tourney or arena even. Should be in suggestion box though Razz

the 60 cards and 12000 LP are because it's traditional format so the 60 cards drop consistency and force you to run even more things at 1, and the extra LP helps make OTKs from the banned cards a little less likely (Although Cyber Stein does get a little retarded)

i don't know how, but i missed the traditional and everything limited rule. do you think we should change that? also, do you "normal summon" the deck master, like tributing a monster if it's Caius, or special summon it? and do we want to add the anime rule that if it dies, you lose?

Yeah it has to be normal summoned since i did a test play with Funch before he d/c'd on me. The rule about it dying is interesting because it makes the person play a bit more cautiously with it although DM's who thrive from the grave are limited.

Sorry about the disconnect, my computer just decided to shut off Sad

But yeah I'd be more than fine with a re-banning of cards, it will just make games take a little longer, and frankly (other than Cyber Stein) with 60 card decks and very few consistent combos because of that a lot of the banned cards aren't too much of an issue and games will probably take a long time anyway (barring Yata lock or Cyber Stein). If people agree to no banned cards I'm sure that would be fine too.

As for the Anime rule of losing when you play your Deck Master, I don't think that really makes the games all that fun. Your choice for deck masters aren't exactly the most phenomenal monsters in general anyway and being able to always have access to your favorite beatstick makes the games more interesting than summoning it, having it eat a random destruction spell/trap and then conceding the game.

I like the basis, but I think the 60 forced cards is kind of stupid. Would the Deck Master count against your overall hand count? You say it's considered to be in your hand while it's banished, so I felt I should ask.

clarifying that it does not count towards your maximum hand size. The requirement of 60 cards is to make duels take longer and ensure combos are less consistent to enforce a less OTK enforced metagame. Also this format was highly inspired by the MTG format Commander, where players have a 100 card deck that includes a "Commander" which is a Legendary Creature which can be cast from a zone outside of standard play and all cards in said players deck must be of a color included in the mana cost of that player's Commander, also the deck cannot contain more than 1 copy of a single card and cards from all sets are deemed legal, and players start the game with 40 Life as opposed to 20.

My friends and I took that basic concept and adapted it to Yu-Gi-Oh!, however we chose to increase the life total only to 12000 because you might not have the ability to take an opponent down from 16000 with a 60 card deck, but 12000 was a more reasonable figure. There are some really broken cards in ygo's past but with a 60 card deck they become far less reliable and only a select few are still considerable to be called truly too good so we figured games where those cards come into play might end a little faster than usual but would still be fun.

The rules have been updated to the general consensus that my friends and I came to after play testing this past weekend. I would really love to get a DM tournament off the ground.

I love the idea and I like the new rules, but when I think at earthbound immortals and light and darkness dragon or photon sanctuary and fires of doomsday I start thinking they are a lil bit broked but thx to the limitation to 1 is not a big deal so I say I'm up for this funkish torney xD

Hope I don't miss the sing-ups Wink

The EBI's aren't too huge of an issue since you do need to be able to keep a field spell out there if you don't want them to instantly die. But Light and Darkness Dragon and Superancient Deepsea King Coelacanth are potential banned DMs as well, so perhaps we should have a vote on that before the tournament is to start.

maybe i'm missing something...but why does being a deck master make them so good? don't we still have to tribute monsters for high level monsters?

Being a DM allows you to have consistent access to them. DMoC is relatively easily summoned through treeborn + fishborg and can allow you to get back access to any spell (was way too good in testing and truly unfair compared to most other DMs). SADSKC can be summoned very easily as well through the above method and also cards like Unshaven Angler and once played can grant you access to Shooting Quasar Dragon basically for free. The main issue with SADSKC is that there's no way to get easy access to the card, but with it being your deck master this is a non issue. REDMD and LaDD also excel in very similar ways but to a far lesser excent, although LaDD being dropped every other turn and negating everything can be a little too much.

I forgot an option for people who don't feel any of them need to be banned so in this case just vote for Option H and state you feel nothing should be banned.

I like the idea of a DM Format, but I disagree with some of the suggestions and ideas, but I've just had one that might work.

Why don't you have DM Advanced and DM Traditional? DM Traditional can have the current rule set, while Advanced has a rule-set more linked to the current actual rules of Yugioh.
